How Can Positive Affirmations Help You?

When I moved from Texas to New York many years ago, one of the things I noticed about people there was how they responded to the question “How are you?”

The typical response in New York was “Not bad”.

In Texas I was accustomed to getting the response “Fine.”

What strikes you most about the difference in those responses?

Did you notice that in the first example, the focus is on negative words, and in the second example, the response is a positive word?

Do you know what Mother Teresa said regarding an invitation to an anti-war demonstration?

She said she would not attend an anti-war demonstration, but that if you invited her to a peace rally, she would go.

So, what does that illustrate?

It shows that Mother Teresa focused on the positive. She would not go to an event that was against something negative, but she would go to an event for something positive.

Her answer is in line with the Laws of Attraction… What you think or talk about comes to you. You attract what you focus on.

How can you apply that to yourself?

Why not create some positive affirmations to answer the questions that follow?

I wrote some example answers to give you a head start, but you should give an answer that most speaks from your heart’s desire. What do you want to attract? Beginning your affirmations with “I am” is very powerful.

What Does A Woodpecker Have to Do With The Laws of Attraction?

Woodpecker Bird

Last month while walking in the park along the bayou near our home, my husband and I were stopped by the sound of loud pecking….loud and very persistent pecking.

So we looked around and spotted a woodpecker on a small bare branch of a tree. Very busy was this little bird, pecking away.

What struck me as odd was that the branch he was pecking on was quite small.

I felt as if he was there to make sure we saw him on that tree barren of leaves in February.

So when I got home, I pulled out my book, Animal Spirit Guides – An Easy-to-Use Handbook for Identifying and Understanding Your Power Animals and Animal Spirit Helpers by Steven D. Farmer, Ph.D.

I let the pages flutter to the Woodpecker page where I read:

“If Woodpecker shows it up, it means:

You’re entering into a time of abundance and plenty.”

Among the possible 5 meanings for woodpecker showing up, I instinctively knew that was the one for me. I know that I am attracting abundance now that I am on the path intended for me.

What about you?

Are you on your intended path?

Are you taking actions to allow the laws of attraction to work for you?

Or are you just accepting what comes, resisting change?

Isn’t it time for you to get out of your comfort zone?  To challenge yourself?

Why not let yourself be inspired by these lyrics from my song, ‘Uplifted and Inspired’?

What Price Are You Paying For Your Lack of Self Empowerment?

Remember when I was telling you about “Blackie”, the diva cat?

Well, I have another story about Blackie….

about her self empowerment.

Now, Blackie is not a big cat. She probably weighed no more than ten pounds back then.

In the house where she was living there also lived a big black dog named Jake. I’m guessing he was probably 6 times the size of Blackie.

Yet when big Jake provoked her,

When Was the Last Time You Practiced Positivity?

I have a confession to make.

Although I consider myself to be a very positive person, I wasn’t always that way. Actually, I was more like the opposite.

I was a complainer…  didn’t even realize it until one day long ago my brother called me on it.

“Y’all are always complaining” he said to my husband and me.

Oh, it hurt to hear that. I was pretty angry about his bold remark….right in my house… as my guest! The nerve of him!

But he was right, as I later realized. Thank you for pointing this out to me, brother Robert! It was a really good life lesson for me.

I had so much to be thankful for, yet I was not expressing gratitude.

Yes, I worked 6 – 7 days a week and had to bring the bookkeeping home to work on till late at night…. and never got 8 hours of sleep… maybe 6 hours if I was lucky.

But I had a good husband and precious daughter, a nice house that we owned, fine cars, fashionable clothing, short vacations in the Caribbean….  And my husband and I were owners of a successful business.

Ah, yes, we had the American dream of owning our own business. We had followed my husband’s dream and succeeded.

But we didn’t take the time to be thankful for all we had.

I hope you’re not making the mistake of complaining and blaming others and not being grateful.

Who have you thanked lately?

Is there more negativity or positivity in your life?

Why does it matter?
