How to Find Happiness? Let Bootsie the Cat Inspire You!

It was less than a year ago, May 2008 when it happened. Seeing is believing, they say. So, I’ll let you see how to find happiness through my storytelling.

My husband, Brian, and I were in Canandaigua, New York visiting his relatives. One evening six of us were sitting in the living room of Peter and Josephine having a grand time laughing and enjoying ourselves.

I noticed that their cat, Bootsie, a Maine coon cat, was prominently positioned by the dining room table. I’d say he was about 15-20 feet away from where I sat. And what was most interesting was that he sat clearly visible to us with his back towards us.

What did that mean?
That was definitely cat body language, wouldn’t you agree?

Bootsie could have gone into another room for peace and quiet, if he so desired.

But no!…

Bootsie seated himself where all of us could see his back and not his face!

So, anyway, as I said, we were enjoying ourselves. Then Mike and Gloria and Peter and Josephine wanted to hear me sing some of the songs I had written…..and I happily obliged.

When I started singing the song I had just written a week or two earlier, guess what happened next….

What’s Your Plan For Making Peace?

There’s just too much disagreement going around, isn’t there? And most of it, if not all, arises from prejudices that you learn. You get influenced by parents, teachers, preachers and peers who were influenced by their parents, teachers, preachers and peers.

And on it goes. You pass it on, too.

But wouldn’t it be better to evaluate the sense of that?

How can you think you’re better than someone else?

Don’t we all have the same Creator?

If you don’t have a plan for making peace, consider the lessons of my lyrics for ‘Arise With Peace’:

What Can You Learn From a Cat About Life Happiness?

Let’s call the cat Blackie. She might be embarrassed if I used her real name…..or maybe not! She’s a diva, you know. It says so on a pendant she proudly wears dangling from her ladybug print collar.

Blackie is so excited, knowing that this time she gets to accompany her owner, Natalie, for a visit to Houston, Texas to visit her parents.

That would be me and my husband…parents of Natalie, not the cat.

By the way, Blackie is a native Texan…from Corpus Christi, to be exact. Natalie and a friend chased and captured her as a frightened little kitten on the campus of Texas A&M University at Corpus Christi.

Blackie was taken away from her mom and siblings who were all stray cats. With her capture, Blackie was on her way to a better life provided by Natalie, a life that took her to live in California… in places where cats are cherished.

As a native Texan, going back to Texas is really special to Blackie. And, of course, she’s spent long periods of time with us, like after Natalie miraculously survived . , ,

How Might Inner Healing Change Your Life?

You might think that growing up on a farm and ranch as part of a large family would be delightful.  Well, let me tell you… it wasn’t so for me, at least most of the time.

Don’t get me wrong. There were happy times….like going to the Ice Capades show and to Disneyland and to Colorado and Florida. At Halloween we wore decorated paper bags over our heads and trick or treated at our house…only at our house, nowhere else.

7 Years of Bad Luck

My childhood was riddled with pain….pain from my emotions as well as pain from bodily injuries caused by accidents….one per year during my first 7 years of school.

I remember writing a paper for school about my 7 years of bad luck. And the accidents didn’t stop when my childhood ended. They continued for many years after I was long gone from the farm and ranch.

Why was it that I had so many accidents while that wasn’t true for any of my 6 siblings?
