How to Find Happiness? Let Bootsie the Cat Inspire You!
It was less than a year ago, May 2008 when it happened. Seeing is believing, they say. So, I’ll let you see how to find happiness through my storytelling.
My husband, Brian, and I were in Canandaigua, New York visiting his relatives. One evening six of us were sitting in the living room of Peter and Josephine having a grand time laughing and enjoying ourselves.
I noticed that their cat, Bootsie, a Maine coon cat, was prominently positioned by the dining room table. I’d say he was about 15-20 feet away from where I sat. And what was most interesting was that he sat clearly visible to us with his back towards us.
What did that mean? That was definitely cat body language, wouldn’t you agree?
Bootsie could have gone into another room for peace and quiet, if he so desired.
But no!…
Bootsie seated himself where all of us could see his back and not his face!
So, anyway, as I said, we were enjoying ourselves. Then Mike and Gloria and Peter and Josephine wanted to hear me sing some of the songs I had written…..and I happily obliged.
When I started singing the song I had just written a week or two earlier, guess what happened next….
Bootsie began to walk toward me!
Just a couple of feet away from me, Bootsie seated himself on the floor and looked up intently at me as I sang about listening with love to the sounds of nature.
You’d think he was attending a concert, seated in the front row!
So, here are some of the lyrics Bootsie heard as I sang from the song, ‘Listen With Love’:
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Open your heart
for love is all around.
Open your heart.
Listen for nature’s sound.
Listen with love.
Listen with love.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
And it appeared to me that Bootsie was indeed listening with love. As I continued singing the song, he rolled over on his back, belly and paws up. He was still watching me, and I began to laugh as I was singing.
What a joy to see how Bootsie changed his attitude! He appeared to be completely happy and very open to receiving love.
And then, when it was time to say goodbye, Bootsie escorted us down the stairs, looking back every now and then to make sure we were following him to the front door! Bootsie became the host with the most!
Now what about you?
Do you sometimes have a problem finding happiness?
Have you ever been so full of grief or pain that it seems you’ll never be happy again?
Won’t you let this story of Bootsie inspire you to listen with love and learn how to find happiness?
Wishing you peace, joy and love,
Joyce Marie

I’ve always thought that animals understand more about us than we think they can.

Aww, that is an adorable story and Bootsie is a cute cat. Sometimes when I sing my cat will start purring on my lap for no reason lol. Even if I don’t pet her.

There’s some link between pets and some kind of music. I heard about these moments from people chanting mantras, and sacred songs.

What a lovely post you have here, cats are very lovely animals I have two and they funnily enough seem to like it when I go around the house singing. They just seem to follow me. There are alot more to cats than people think, they can always feel when I am upset too as they just come and sit by my side.

Roses have such an attraction for lovers because of its availability in so many different colors. Mixed rose bouquets, for example, combine the passionate reds, pure whites, bashful pinks, vibrant yellows and every other imaginable colors and bringing them together in one pleasing, colorful arrangement.

I have thought about including lyrics to Chinese songs in my language website. I think it can help a student learn hundreds of phrases by listening to the same song over and over again.
